AG Day PROJECT 2025
CULTURAL THEMED FENCE PICKET
Create & design a fence picket to represent ‘YOUR STORY: Who you are and where you have come from’
Agricultural Day – Saturday 20 September 2025
All students, Year 4 and upwards, who do not have an animal MUST enter the project section. The project is optional for Year 3 students.
We have pre-purchased the pickets (so they will all be the same) at a discounted price and these will be for sale through Mrs Glasgow at a price of $5 per picket. These will be available next week and on collection we require payment.
For those who would like their picket to remain at school these will be displayed on a fence at school after Ag Day to decorate our school.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ALL PROJECTS MUST ADHERE TO THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
(The picket fence is the same for all years with extended expectations as the year level progresses)
FOR YOUR PROJECT YOU WILL NEED:
To ensure pickets are all the same size this must be purchased from the school
No words, names or initials are to be on the picket (visual representation only in symbols or pictures)
Your “story’ must start at the bottom of the picket.
For example start with your family history/roots eg. the country that your family emigrated/originated from or the iwi they belonged to by illustrating this with a symbol, a family crest, flag etc and then build upwards through your family history, culture, personal interests to end with a representation of yourself at the top of the picket.
The pickets will be displayed at school during and after Ag day - therefore there are to be no 3-D materials used on the picket (no beads, glitter or glued on accessories) The picket should only be painted, carved, etched or drawn on.
Your picket must be able to withstand the outside elements (wind and rain).
If the picket is painted, it must be with an outdoor weather appropriate paint. The school will try to
source some paint options to be available at the school for you to use.
Only one side of the picket needs to be decorated. Please clearly label the back of the picket with your
child’s name, and year.
MAKE AN A3 PORTRAIT VISUAL DIARY
You need to create a visual presentation in the form of an A3 poster style (all student levels)
This needs to be of high quality - either in your own writing or typed up
Draw a plan of how you will tell “your story”
Tell us about yourself, where you have come from, your family history
What materials did you use - why did you use them/what worked/what didn’t
Include at least 6 photos showing:
You working on your picket which will show the progress and to ensure that this was your own work.
Make sure that your visual board is on A3 paper and portrait for display please
A gentle reminder to parents, the project must be predominantly the STUDENT’S WORK. Whilst we understand students may need guidance and some help especially with the painting, carving and etching, this is to be the child’s project, not the adults.
ENTRIES ARE JUDGED ON:
PICKETS AND VISUAL DIARIES MUST BE TAKEN TO THE School Hall BEFORE SCHOOL during
Week 9 which is 8 - 12 September.
No entries will be accepted after 12 September
(This will hopefully alleviate pressure for families during the last week.)
